Oregon's Most Prominent and Isolated Peaks

Mount Jefferson from the Whitewater Trail

Mount Jefferson from the Whitewater Trail

The topographic prominence of a peak is the height of the peak's summit as the vertical distance between it and the lowest contour line encircling it but containing no higher summit within it. It is a measure of the independence of a peak.

The topographic isolation of a peak is the minimum great-circle distance from the peak's summit to a point of equal elevation. Topographic isolation represents a radius of dominance in which the peak is the highest point.

This page includes the 103 peaks in Oregon with at least 1800 feet of prominence and the 27 peaks in Oregon with at least 25 miles of isolation. These peaks are organized by region and sorted within region by prominence. I have added to this page other Oregon peaks I have visited with at least 1400 feet of prominence. These additions will grow as I explore more of Oregon.

This list has much more coverage of Oregon than does the Oregon's Highest Peaks list. Hiking these peaks has been an excellent way for me to explore my home state.
